The Lesson Plan

The previous post talks about everything that went down in the recent Pisay elections. I consider those problems done. It’s all a matter of implementing the Comelec resolution and for people to accept the results of the vote.

Here are some lessons I hope you learn from this:

• Voting is a right and a responsibility.
• You can’t expect all the rules and guidelines to be spoonfed. You will have to be vigilant as well. Pay attention to announcements. Ask questions when instructions are unclear.
• Since you were young, teachers would penalize you for not following directions. In elections, no one will be there to tell you you’re doing wrong. If you mess up your ballot, then it’s like your ballot never existed.
• If you don’t vote, you don’t have the right to complain.
• Elections produce more losers than winners. Be prepared to deal with defeat. When joining, expect to lose but hope to win.
• There is never such a thing as a sure victory. So don’t waste your vote.
• Of course elections are unfair. Only one side gets to have their way. Deal with it.
• Just because the results are not what you like doesn’t mean something went wrong. More people just really voted for the other one.
• An election victory is only the beginning. The rest of your term is a campaign to make your people believe and support everything you do.
