The Lesson Plan

[Hands that Help Build a Nation] Episode 7: Foundation for Adolescent Development

More than half of our population is below twenty years old. And if the cliche that the youth is our future remains true, then we will never run out of work to do to ensure that they all grow up to become productive members of our society. Education is only the beginning.

The recent case of Cho Seung-Hui, a Korean in America, is an example of how bad things get when they go wrong. And I am sure that having encountered a troubled friend is not far from our experience, especially during our more tender, young adult years.

This is where organizations such as the Foundation for Adolescent Development come in. In the video above, they talk about their Dial a Friend program which has now evolved into something else as you can see in their website. Their thrust is simple — to help young adults overcome their problems and worries in order to become productive members of society.

They, after all, are our primary nation builders.
