Pinoy and Pisay science projects make a mark on the global stage!

I was browsing through Inside Science and saw a couple of articles that should make Pisay students proud to be where they are. Guys, add that blog to your blogrolls now!
First would be two high caliber science projects shining in a World Bank competition. What I found truly remarkable with these projects is their real world application. Quoting from the article (RP projects shine in World Bank tilt),
The first project created by Asian Alliance of Appropriate Technology Practitioners Inc. or Approtech Asia. Their project is to train 200 street food vendors in Metro Manila in preparing highly nutritious, hygienic, affordable food packages from indigenous plants and animals, and provide common hygienic kitchen facilities for these food vendors.
The second winning project is from International Resources Group Philippines, which will set up two health banks for the poor in island towns of Obando, Bulacan.
The health banks will provide milk, vitamin supplements and medicine to children in exchange for recyclable goods.
Amazing! Whoever said that Pisay scholars need only be scientists? With that knowledge, you are in a truly unique position to be active citizens in nation building.
This can be seen further in the second article I saw is about Luiji Suarez from Doña Hortencia Salas Benedicto National High School. For his project that combined biology with agriculture, he won a special scholarship worth $1000 from the recent Intel International Science and Engineering Fair in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
And of course, congratulations are in order to Pisay’s own delegates. From the Main Campus we have Ivy Razel Ventura, Janine Santiago, and Mara Villaverde with their research combined microbiology and medicine. Also a big winner is another PSHS scholar from the Cagayan Valley Campus with a very interesting research on the mathematical patterns and their meaning in the fabrics woven by the indigenous Kalinga. His was a foray into the relatively new field of ethnomathematics. Very impressive work!
With a new school year upon us all, I believe we could all use some good news. To all the students of the PSHS, be proud of what you have achieved and be ready for to discover what else you have in store!
Good luck this SY07/08!
