The HUGE SS2 Play Report ‘07! Plus, BIGGER Wu Wei!
I am proud to present my report on the plays for this school year! Everyone really gave their best and I couldn’t be any prouder!
You guys were under a lot of pressure in the days leading up to your performances that I couldn’t believe how well you were able to bring everything together. I know I owe the second, third and fourth days my impressions. I will get to that soon since I’ve been busy preparing this report. It’s pretty thorough and I promise, my qualitative feedback will follow.
The cast gallery will also be posted soon.
For now in this report, you will see the following:
- My grades for your performances
- Second chance details
- The feedback of the audience
- The ratings of your groupmates
- The rewards and Wu Wei bonuses won
- Wu Wei casting rules for December 7
This post will detail what you see in the document. Click to continue!
Let me do a page by page guide as to what you will see in the document. First, download it from the link below:

The first page is the PLAY SUMMARY:
The first five data columns (HSTRY to AVE) are the marks you received from me.
The next two columns bordered by thick black lines (the one on the left is supposed to read ‘REQUIREMENTS’ but Google Docs isn’t working right) are the grades you will be receiving for your 2nd long test for this quarter and for the project.
However, take note that the grade I record for your project will be higher. I am using the grade you received from your PEER RATING as an additional (bonus) percentage point to be added to your score. For example, you got a 4.5 rating from your groupmates, and you got 95 as a group, your final score for the project will be 95 + 4.5% or 99.75. This is my way of rewarding those who worked really well and deserve a high grade.
If you are still unhappy with your grade, then you can take advantage of a second chance. Personally, I believe there are second chances in life; it’s just that not everyone makes the most of the opportunity. Thus, I am offering everyone the chance to perform again. The catch is, you’ll have to make it happen. Here are my conditions for a second performance:
- Your group sets the date, time and place outside of SS2 time. I’ll entertain you until January 12 only.
- Your entire class must agree to this new arrangement.
- I will sit with your group to make recommendations on how to make it better.
- You won’t be performing for any Chi rewards.
- I will average the grade of your first performance with the second. In case you would like to argue that I only record your second performance (for example you do it really, really, really well), then I’ll put it to a vote with the entire class (via secret ballot).
- Sorry, but there will be no ‘third’ chance. “It’s do or do not; there is no try.”
That’s it for the second chance. Make a move while you can. Moving on…
The next three include the ‘AUD’ or the rating you received from the audience, and ‘PEER’ is the average rating of the entire group. ‘OA’ is the over-all score which I used to determine the best plays. The formula for obtaining the over-all score can be seen at the bottom row of the main table.
The next section is the good stuff — the REWARDS! Let me run down how I determined the rewards:
- BEST SCRIPT is based on my evaluation of the entire play’s story, dialogue and plot. I also took into account the script which got the most memorable lines and/or scenes.
- BEST PROD(UCTION) goes to the team with the highest production score. In the event of a tie, the award goes to the team with the higher over-all score.
- MOST DILIGENT goes to the team with the highest average peer rating score. I believe that the team who has worked best together will rate each other most satisfactorily.
- CROWD FAVORITE goes to the team with the highest audience rating in their class.
- MOST VALUABLE is partly my call, and goes to the team whose play has the richest message. I also took into account the audience’s input in the question on imperialism.
- BEST DIRECTOR is partly my call, and goes to the team whose sequences, shots and scenes were placed best on stage. I also took into account some audience reaction during key scenes.
- The ACTING AWARDS are determined based on the number of times a person was singled out by the audience in the feedback form, plus an assessment of the over-all reaction of the audience to that person’s actual performance.
- The COUNTRY AWARDS go to that team with the highest over-all score for that country. Only one for each country for the entire batch.
- The BEST PLAY goes to the team with the highest over-all score in the class.
- PLAY OF THE YEAR goes to the one team with the highest over-all score among all my sections.
Of course, these all have Chi rewards! Take a look at the super updated Wu Wei Master List! I cleaned up things a bit, and compressed all the previously acquired Chi into one subtotal just before the play rewards.
For those who won Best Script, Best Production and Best Director, you have until tomorrow evening to send me any corrections and/or updates if you want me to credit the right people.

And here I am making good on my deal with Adelfa –
You guys are the first class to experience a ceasefire. While I would have loved seeing you enjoy the game, I loved seeing you perform so well in the plays even more. You guys really outdid yourselves, and you have earned the privilege to play Wu Wei again!
But wait, there’s more! Because of your great performances, I have decided to reward you all by allowing you to have even more fun with Wu Wei.
Adelfa, I am restoring all your spells. However, all the effects (ie. Exchange, Inferno) from the previous rounds will remain just so that you learn how to live with the consequences of your actions. As I always say, life is abound with second chances but not everyone makes the most of the opportunity.
Kick ass, but play nice.
And before I forget, one more reward for everyone’s hard work: you all get a free level up. Have fun!
I will be entertaining spellcasters starting 12:30 of December 7. I suggest you study the Wu Wei Manual really well before you make your move. You have so many options now!
I would like to repeat the guidelines I set last time:
- All spells should be written by group in one 1/4 piece of intermediate pad.
- I will be following a first come, first served basis. Those who present their spells first, cast first.
- All transactions should be made with me in my cubicle. If you see me buying in the caf and bug me with your spells, I won’t entertain you (or treat you…).
- Spells submitted to me that day are good as cast. I won’t be announcing them to the class anymore. However, I also won’t reveal what other groups casted until you read my blog update that evening.
- The counter period for this round will be 48 hours after I post the Wu Wei update here. For example, if my post is published at 9PM of Friday, you have until 9PM of Sunday to call counters.
- And lastly, if we all play nice, I might — just might — open up one more round of casting on December 10, our field trip.

Whew. That was one huge update. I worth it has been worth the wait.
Now, we look straight forward to the exams. Good luck to all!
